Cover letter is a letter that goes alongside your CV and presents yourself to an employer; therefore it’s a very important document. It should be professional and have an organized structure. Here we summarized some key points how you need to plan and write your cover letter to be invited to an on-site interview:

  • Do not just replicate your CV, add something about your personality that you haven’t included in your resume
  • No more than one page of the A4 format
  • Create a letterhead; It looks professional
  • Start with a name of the employer or HR manager if you can find it; otherwise use “Dear Sir/Madam”
  • Begin with a compelling argument that will make a recruiter continue reading; summarize all your experience and motivation to work in one sentence
  • In the next paragraphs describe your qualifications and professional skills and how it aligns with the requirements of the job position and also mention what motivates you to work for this company in this particular role
  • In the final paragraph encourage a recruiter to proceed to the next stage, e.g. “I look forward to hearing from you and having the opportunity to discuss my suitability for this role in more detail at interview”
  • Don’t forget to include your contact details and put a date on the letter.
